Dad

We meet in dreams
And passing thoughts
Unexpected

Rumbling, sputtering motors
Bearing grease and clinking tools
Cigarettes poorly hidden from a patient wife
Afternoons in a garage

Both comrade and foe
Mostly the former
Old scars mended by the passing of time

Old sweaters
Woolen caps
Old men, a passing glance
Not you

We can only meet in dreams and memories
